COME HERE FOR THE…

open-air atmosphere, family-friendliness, cycling shop + rentals, mountain views, direct bike path access.

Arrival by two wheels is endorsed but certainly not required at Frogtown’s Spoke Bicycle Cafe, an all-day destination that runs directly alongside the L.A. River Bike Path. A true pioneer in the coffeeshop-meets-bike shop arena, Spoke offers a main cafe, a retail/repair bike shop, and PLENTY of seating in between, all of which is outdoors—hooray!

Weekend Warrior mentality aside, I have to believe that the energy here is always running on endorphins. You can tell that Spoke is a popular meet-up for bikers at any part of their journey, but it’s also such a welcoming spot for families and pets, which only adds to the overall appeal. People are in motion, biker jerseys are bordering on neon, and it all makes you want to jump right in.

Spoke exclusively serves Trystero Coffee, a small specialty roaster right in Frogtown. I pivoted from my normal latte/house brew order to try their Orange Chocolate Cappuccino because I’m a sucker for the orange + chocolate combo, and it delivered. They also have an Orange Ginger Cubano if ‘ginger’ is your trigger word. For breakfast, I went with their “classic”: two eggs, thick toast, and potatoes (which I subbed for avocado) for $10. Everything was well-portioned and delicious!

In addition to a full day’s menu, Spoke serves craft beer that you can purchase by the bottle or the pitcher (!) and they really go the extra mile (sorry, had to) by hosting events during the evenings.

FYI: they are closed on Mondays! Bike shop hours differ so check their website for more details.

COFFEE MENU $2.50 (brew of the day) — $5.50 (golden milk latte) HOURS Tues-Thurs 8-6pm; Fri&Sat 8-10pm; Sunday 8-9pm
